Realising the needs of the Catholic families from Kerala residing around Nagercoil Rev. Fr. Mathew Vakayil, the then District Vicar of Kanyakumari Mission requested Sr. Maria, the then Regional Superior of San Joe Region to start a convent at Nagercoil.  According to the decision of the Regional Council a convent was started in a rented house on 21st May 1990.  Rev. Sr. Tresa Martin was appointed the superior.  Sr. Francelet and Sr. Bennet were the other members.  Considering the request of the parishioners an English medium nursery school was started in the rented building with the name Alphonsa Nursery School.  Sr. Bennet was appointed the teacher.  Later a plot of land was purchased and a convent building was constructed there.  The convent was blessed on 31st of October 1991 and sisters started to stay there on the same day.  The sisters render selfless service at the parish of Nagercoil and Thadikarankonam.  The main apostolate of the sisters is to work for the empowerment of women and youth.  In response to the request of Rev. Fr. Thomas Powathuparampil, the Manager of Alphonsa Higher Secondary School, a boarding house was started for plus 2 students on the first floor of the convent.  It was blessed and inaugurated on 19th June 2004.  40 girls are given accommodation in this Alphonsa Boarding house.  The sisters in charge of it render sincere service for the spiritual and physical well-being of the girls.
